Seafarers’ Mental Health Awareness Virtual Classroom
The course aims to cultivate mental resilience, enhance understanding of mental health challenges specific to maritime life, and equip participants with practical skills to support themselves and their colleagues.
During a 2 day webinar participants will:
• Gain a basic understanding of what mental health is and how it affects overall well-being;
• Identify how mental health challenges differ from physical health issues;
• Understand the most prevalent mental health issues seafarers face: anxiety, depression, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse;
• Understand risk factors specific to seafaring such as long periods of isolation and separation from family and friends, limited access to mental health care or support while at sea, and other factors;
• Recognize depression and identify key symptoms of stress. Learn stress-management techniques;
• Identify early signs of burnout, learn how to strike a balance between work duties and personal time to maintain long-term mental health;
• Comprehend recovery and resilience building. Post-voyage recovery importance.
The course delegates will get awareness mental health training onboard, how to educate the crew on recognizing signs of mental health issues, offering peer support, and understanding when to seek professional help.
Also, the course participants will be provided with access to mental health resources such as helplines, wellness apps, and workshops that promote mental health awareness.
